I’m getting married to the love of my life in June and am 100% horrible at wedding planning. I got 75% of the stuff done in the first 3 weeks of being engaged (getting the dress, setting the date, picking bridesmaids and bridesmaid dresses, putting in a deposit on a venue) and have found it virtually impossible to get anything done after that.
One of the many areas I’ve been dragging my feet on is finding a wedding hair and makeup artist. I have a very specific viewpoint when it comes to hair and makeup. I really don’t like how a lot of recent trends look on me (contouring, perfectly shaped eyebrows, overdrawn lips) and I typically prefer a more “natural” look. Sienna Miller and Zooey Deschanel are both example, a less-racist Brigette Bardot would be another. I more or less constantly want to look like I just came inside after picking apples, or woke up from a nap– flushed cheeks, glowy, plump skin, and pitch-black flicked eyeliner.
I had my makeup done for my engagement photos at Pucker in December. While I really enjoyed the experience, I wasn’t totally happy with the final look. Every element (foundation, eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, lipstick) was much thicker than I normally prefer. I ended up looking great in the pictures, but strongly felt that Pucker wouldn’t be right for “the big day.”
Since then, I’ve been more or less certain that I wanted to go with Glamsquad for wedding hair and makeup. I’m especially into their designed-for-weddings “Ivy” look:
The only problem is that I can’t get it together to schedule a trial. Glamsquad primarily deals in house calls, which don’t work for me because
- I live in Jersey City and not NYC
- I have a totally bonkers dog who gets scared when the Corgi who lives above us runs too fast.
- I hate cleaning but would feel guilty if my house wasn’t spotless
I was going to have a trial in my Maid of Honor’s apartment, but she had work and lives in a doorman building, so getting into her place would be tricky. I’m going to the New York Magazine Wedding Show this Thursday and Glamsquad is apparently going to have a booth. Hopefully, I’ll be able to work this out with them face-to-face then.
